If I think the worst, I’ll be ready. Won’t I?

So many of us think that if we think the worst, we’ll somehow be better prepared. I used to too. Can you relate too?

But even in our worst case scenarios, things never happen EXACTLY like we think or plan.

And if they DO happen, it really doesn’t make it any easier to swallow, does it?

Now we’ve filled up this one moment when we could be peaceful, and instead, filled it up with anxiety and worry. It really doesn’t get us very far.

Mindfulness is such a foundational skill, because it’s so effective in reducing anxiety, stress, worry, but it’s one thing we often focus on during our counseling sessions. It’s a cornerstone of my integrative holistic therapy program for this reason.

Some clients worry that they aren’t good at meditation. Mindfulness is not meditation. Think of it being more present-focused. There are tricks and tips you can use to be more mindful in any given moment that aren’t hard.
