Bored, Unmotivated & Uninspired: Simple activities to do when you need a shift
Have you ever been invited to a party, and you were really looking forward to it?
Then the day comes of the party, and suddenly you don’t feel like going?
But, because you’re thoughtful and awesome (and you feel guilty), you don’t want to disappoint anyone, you end up going?
And end at the end, you found out you had a great time! Know what I mean?
It’s so hard to get moving sometimes isn’t it?
I think we’ve all felt those times when we have felt bored, unmotivated, or uninspired and for the life of us, we just cannot get moving!
You so desperately want to get out of this funk, but you just have no idea where to start!
There are some very simple activities you can do to start changing that gloomy mood.
Just like I wrote about in a previous blog post, our thoughts & actions drive our feelings most of the time.
We can get easily caught up into a loop thinking that when we feel like doing whatever it is, we will.
The fault in that kind of thinking is that until we take action, we won’t feel better.
So to help you out, at the end of the post, I’ve listed some simple activities you can do to help change your mood. (Many of these come from Dialectical Behavior Therapy, but anyone of us can use them.)
During my therapy sessions, I often help clients identify their values (which we often limit ourselves to the “what” we feel is important and overlook the “why” it’s important to us). When we can get a very clear handle on the what and the why, both equally important, we can tailor some simple strategies and steps to much more effectively get you feeling better.
It’s impossible in this post, for me to really individualize this for you. But, I’ve found these 5-minute, or longer if you can, activities can help many people feel better. So, I wanted to share them here with you!
So, if you’re seriously tired of how you’re feeling - if you want & believe you deserve to be happier- then it’s time to do our work together.
Please give yourself the gift of the best you. I absolutely believe you deserve it!
