Using The Peaceful Path Deck

What is the "skills deck"? It's our new card deck that has a soft serene front along with a keyword to help guide you as you learn and develop new coping skills and strategies to help in times of fear, anxiety, stress, or perhaps, anytime you need a different way of looking at something. You can read more about the deck by clicking here.

"The Peaceful Path: Simple Strategies for Stress, Worry and Fear" contains 42 real-life, easy-to-learn and use coping skills and strategies along with 7 daily affirmation cards with a short instruction on the back of each card. This allows you to tuck a card in your purse or pocket and carry it with you throughout the day to use as a reminder as needed. You can pull a card randomly, reach day, or choose a specific card you want to learn more and practice. In a moment of fear or stress, you can also choose a card that's whatever you feel you need in that moment. It really is quite versatile and can be a tool you use as you need and want! There aren't any hard and fast rules. Life is chock full of those enough!

Today, I pulled the "love you" card. On the back of the card it says: "Time for some self-love! We cannot fully give ourselves to others if we cannot first fully give to ourselves. Find a mirror, look yourself deeply in the eyes and repeat: "I love you. I truly and completely love you." For as long as you need in this moment." Why is this card so important? Because even though it may sound silly, or we may feel silly doing it, or maybe we aren't even sure if we fully believe it, the bottom line remains the same. We must love ourselves first. If we can't love and nurture ourselves, how can we do it for others?  We often spend so much time taking care of everyone else, expressing our love for them, but if we don't love and care for ourselves first and foremost, we can't do it for others all that well. It's like trying to give something when the fuel tank is on empty! It's healthy and natural to stop and remind ourselves that we ARE loved. We love us. We care about us. We are there for us.

So, today, I pulled a card randomly. I once had a client ask me if I practice the skills I teach. My answer was a definite YES! Why? Because I want to see for myself how they work, how they may be adapted, and give me the results expected. So, yes, I make it a daily habit to choose one skill a day to practice myself as a way to reinforce what I know, and I find it personally to be a great way to start my day. Seeing what skill it is I'll focus on and then it helps keep me focused as well.

Creating this deck was my way to help reach more people as more clients came to me not knowing where to start. And other clients came to me knowing some of this, but they weren't practicing what they knew because they had no reminder that it takes practice and repetition to fully integrate what we know into our daily lives.

I hope you find these a great addition if you are already in counseling, or if you're not, you can still use them and learn. I've had quite a few clients outside of my counseling practice benefit from these as well. We all have some fear and stress. It's always helpful to find ways to cope that resonate the best with each of us.

Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions at all. I always want you to be comfortable with any service or product we offer. I mean that very sincerely.

Wishing you the best of health and happiness,

Beth
